About a month ago, the Michelin Guide, French tire company’s an annual restaurant and hotel guidebook best known for its star ratings, unleashed the Michelin Keys, a new area of rating focusing on hotels and hospitality. Criteria for the keys include architecture and design, service, value for money, personality and link to their location. Simple enough, but I think it’s impossible to create a definitive rating of hotels in large regional areas that are actual countries. Add to that, there is probably definitely some jockeying behind the scenes that may not be altogether objective. In any case, when Michelin announced the Italy list last week, I immediately took a look.
Overall, I think the list has some great standouts. Of the eight three keys properties, my favorite hotel in Italy makes the cut and I'm not surprised.
